Catch Up & 16-19 Tuition

COVID-19 Catch Up Funding

In 2020-2021 Bede Academy will receive £83,120 for North (Secondary Years) and £50,160 for South (Primary Years) (£133,280 total allocation) to provide specific activities to support students to catch up for lost teaching over the previous months.

Our Catch-Up Action Plan does not exist in isolation from the Bede Academy Development Plan.  At Bede Academy our mission is to provide all with the opportunity to work hard to achieve their personal best, to encourage personal, moral and spiritual development within a Christian framework; and to create a disciplined, sensitive environment where everyone is equally valued.

Equity lies at the heart of our curriculum intent and eradicating disadvantaged is a core priority. This action plan expands on our academy priorities to exemplify specific actions pertaining to catch-up spending.

The overall aims of the Catch-Up Action plan are organised in response to the Education Endowment Funds Catch-Up guide, which recommends spending in three tiers, as with Pupil Premium Funding.

Tier 1: Teaching
Tier 2: Academic support
Tier 3: Wider strategies

16 – 19 Tuition Fund

In 2020-2021 Bede Academy received £3,625 from the 16-19 tuition fund. £2575 was spent directly on 1-2-1 online tuition leaving a carried forward of £1050 to be added to the £9992 2021-2022 tuition fund.

The funding is being used to support small group or individual tuition for 16 to 19 students in English and maths. Tuition is available to students who did not achieve a 5 or above in at least one of those subjects at this level by age 16.

Bede Academy is working in partnership with www.mytutor.co.uk to provide 1-2-1 tuition for students in English and mathematics, according to need.

We expect the 2021-2022 funding to allow around 220 hours of 1-2-1 tuition for these students with the ambition to enable every student to achieve a grade 4 or above in these GCSE examinations.

11 students have been identified to benefit from this intensive tuition, including prioritised support for disadvantaged students and those with EAL.

In addition to this, 1-2-1 and small group tuition will be provided to students on vocational pathways to support with completion of these courses.  This will be provided by existing staff during school holidays and learning support staff during term time.

Year 7 Catch Up Fund

In 2019-2020 the allocation of funds to Bede Academy for this purpose was £22,600.
