Impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) on School Admissions Appeals

We are monitoring government guidance and currently considering the possible impact of the coronavirus on admission appeals. The Appeals Panel are unpaid and trained volunteers, so there may be unavoidable delays this year due to the virus outbreak.

Reception places for September 2020

Parents of children who are due to start Reception in September 2020 will be notified by Northumberland County Council on 16th April of the school allocated to their child.

If your child has been allocated a place at Bede Academy it is necessary to provide proof of residency of the address indicated on the application form you completed during the application process.  Details of how to provide this information can be found here. Please could we ask that documents are emailed to: BAdmission@bedeacademy.org.uk

If your child has not been allocated a place at Bede Academy it will be because Bede Academy has received more than 90 applications for this year group, and has had to allocate places in the order in which they are listed on the Oversubscription Criteria. This said, you do have the right to appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel in relation to your application to Bede Academy.  We must point out that, as we are bound by Government legislation not to exceed a class size of 30, the only basis upon which the Appeal Panel could uphold any appeal would be that the Academy had either not applied its admissions criteria properly, or had made an admissions decision which was unreasonable.  If you wish to appeal, please complete an appeal form which should be emailed to BAdmission@bedeacademy.org.uk by Thursday 14 May 2020.  An Independent Panel will then meet to consider your appeal and advise you of the outcome.  Alternatively, we will be setting up a waiting list, and if you would like your child to be included then please complete and return the enclosed waiting list form to BAdmission@bedeacademy.org.uk
