Dear parents and carers

I hope that this email finds you and your family well and that you have had a good break over the Easter holidays.

I am writing to you to provide you with an update on the wearing of face coverings in schools following the Government’s announcement yesterday.

As you may have heard the government have confirmed that face covering should continue to be worn in secondary school classrooms and communal areas after the Easter break. Therefore we will continue with this expectation here at Bede Academy for students in our secondary years. The government have stated that they are continuing with this approach to help limit the risk of transmission of the virus and whilst the routine of embedding home testing continues to be established.

Students should continue to undertake their Covid-19 home test twice weekly, on MONDAY and THURSDAY mornings.Tests may be taken the night before, but results must be submitted within 24 hours of taking the test. For students aged 11, testing should be undertaken by parents. Household members are also advised to take twice weekly tests; further information can be found in this guide. A helpful video showing how to do the tests can be viewed here: (282) How to do a COVID-19 Self Test (rapid antigen test) – YouTube

Results must be submitted to:

  1. The academy, using this link
  2. The government: www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result

Please read the privacy notice here regarding the storage of data relating to home test results: Privacy-Notice-students-testing-at-home.pdf (bedeacademy.org.uk)

Any student with a positive test must remain at home and book a PCR test to confirm the result.

Any student with Covid-19 symptoms must not attend the academy, but book a PCR test to confirm if they have the virus.

Any student who has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive OR a member of their household has symptoms and is awaiting test results, they must isolate for 10 days from the point of contact.

It is expected that face coverings will no longer be required when we move to ‘Step 3’ in the government’s plans for easing lockdown restrictions. This may be from the 17th May, however we anticipate an announcement by the government in the week beginning 10th May and will update you accordingly.

We look forward to seeing all of our students back again next week.

Kind regards

Mr A Thelwell

Principal
