Library

The Academy has a library on each site, both well-stocked with resources to support students in their studies and reading for pleasure. Students are given the opportunity to use the library during Literacy and English. Students may borrow books to read at home and, at Bede North, may use the library as a resource at break and lunch times. Library and Information Services

The Library at Bede North stocks a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books, including classic texts and a separate Sixth Form fiction collection. There is access to a range of newspapers, magazines, periodicals and online journals, all carefully chosen to support the curriculum, as well as a suite of computers for independent research and homework.

Accelerated Reader Programme
Students in Years 5, 6 & 7 take part in the Accelerated Reader programme which is designed to increase reading comprehension and promote reading for pleasure. The programme works to identify a students’ current reading level and guides them to a range of books which will help develop their vocabulary and comprehension. We are continually adding to the stock of books; with students being encouraged to recommend titles they would like to read.

Ask a Question!

At Bede North we have a full time Librarian. If you have a question that needs an answer, do not hesitate to ask the Librarian or her team of Student Librarians. They are well trained and highly skilled at pointing you in the right direction to find the answer you are looking for.

Free eBooks & Audiobooks for students

We are delighted to announce that the Academy has teamed up with Northumberland Schools Library Service to offer our students free access to eBooks and Audiobooks.  The resources are provided by a company called ‘ePlatform by Wheelers’ and allows access to thousands of books ranging from the classics to up to date contemporary fiction, including all of the popular titles our students love to read.  The site is easy to navigate and can be used on a PC and laptop on the desktop version, or via the app for mobile or tablet devices.   A STEP BY STEP GUIDE is attached for students to follow, showing how to log onto the ePlatform, search, borrow and reserve books.  There is also a SHORT VIDEO attached showing how to navigate the site.

At Bede Academy we constantly strive to help our students foster a love of reading that will stay with them for the rest of their lives, this is done through class visits to our well stocked library, during DEAR time, and now through this exciting new ePlatform.  Developing strong reading skills is not only important for academic success, it has also been proven that it helps children develop a greater understanding of the world we live in, improve relationships with others, reduce symptoms of stress and anxiety and improve wellbeing throughout their lives.

We hope you and your child enjoy the many benefits using the new ePlatform will bring.
